An idea that has come up, and something that I'd like to organize in RTP, is an OpenSocial Hackathon.

We could have adult beverages and pizza, the goal would be to get people together to network and start banging out compliance tests, fixing compliance bugs in Shindig, implement some of these OS 2.0 proposals in Shindig,  or whatever is needed and people want to work on.

If people are interested, I can reach out to the Shindig mailing list too and try and get some more people who are local to RTP (North Carolina) involved.

Matt,
+1 on this idea. I can bring this up at the board meeting to see if OS can sponsor part of this (i think a few pizzas would be good but let folks buy their own beverages). we've got monies allocated for hack-a-thons. one think i think we should try and do is get some concrete objectives. for example, we could implement the versioning of the spec in shindig, or pick a few of the issues and author them there.

Like the idea as well. I would like to make an attempt to come down
to participate in this. If we can narrow down the date I can see what
I can do.

Later if we are going to hack something on the spec Mobile/Tablet/TV views I should be able to host it at Hackerdojo. Need at least 2-4 weeks to get approval. It can fit 50+ hackers with WiFi support.

We really hadn't discussed timeframe yet, though it's really just a matter of picking a day.

Let me chat with folks tomorrow and set a date.

I just saw the May 12 event. May be we can wait. We also have to address OAuth 1.0a & OAuth 2.0 on mobile. I'd like to see if we could recommend OAuth library for mobile developer.

I like the idea, maybe we could also set up another event around the IO so that us international folks could join as well :-)

Ideally we should at least get the most popular OAuth library used in Twitter in iPhone & Android to work on Open Social. On the mobile, we should keep things "tidy" not forcing us to use multiple OAuth libraries to connect to different APIs. It just hurt performance & optimization.

If I could get OAuth to work on mobile side with Open Social in May or later, I'll consider recording the how-to and share the video. I'm setting to do screen casting on my iOS SDK training. This will save a lot of traveling hassle. You can read the news on US & Japan gov warning citizens not to travel due to the radiation issues.

First of all, let me say that this is AWESOME the amount of interest we are getting in "Hack-a-thons".

How about this...

Let's definitely do a hack-a-thon the morning of the state of the union event. I'll ask Paul to see if there's a place in Google that we could use so we don't have to jump from place to place. I'd like a volunteer to jump in and help Paul with this and help coordinate an agenda etc. I'm more than happy to setup an event brite on this from the OpenSocial perspective.

Hack-a-thon RTP
I'd like to do this BEFORE we head out for the state of the union event. April is fine--probably better b/c I'd like to use it to new people involved as well. That said, let's keep our weekly meetings and the momentum going. I'll let Matt run with this one. One thing I'd ask is that we get some logistics out so that we get the date picked quickly.

Hack-a-thon India:
SWEEEET!!!! This is a fantastic idea. I'm not sure who would be able to travel for this, but we could definitely help get the agenda together, help blog/tweet on the event, et.

Talked with Mark W, and created a wiki page we can all edit to suggest
ideas for hackathons and breakout sessions/BOFs for the morning of the
State of the Union Event.

This wiki page:
http://docs.opensocial.org/display/OSD/2012+State+of+the+Union-+Hackathon%2C+Breakout+Sessions+and+Poster+Sessions

should be used to both
1) post topics
2) to sign up for what you want to attend so we can figure out a schedule.

I've created a wiki page for the OpenSocial Hackathon in RTP.  Date selected is Thursday April 28th from 3-9pm EST

Exact location is still TBD but it will likely be near the American Tobacco Campus in Durham or NCSU Centennial Campus in Raleigh.

http://docs.opensocial.org/display/OSD/OpenSocial+Hackathon+RTP+-+April+28th+2011

Like the State of the Union Hackathon, there is a table for people to add project ideas and sign up for them.

This OS Hachathon in RTP is in North Carolina, not Silicon Valley.

Date/Time:  April 28th 2011,  3pm - 9pm
Location: Raleigh / Durham
