SelectFeature tool not working?

Any ideas why the SelectFeatures tool does not work anymore?
Not even in the OpenScales site's demos.

selectByGeometry function seems to be commented out completely. This seems to cause the problem.

I uncommented it and it works like it use to be. Is there a reason why this is done?
