to OpenIntents
Hi all,
As you may know, the core OpenIntents team has been deeply involved
during the last couple of month in the development of SplashPlay for
ADC round 2. The application is currently in review, and we are all
eagerly waiting for the results :-)
In the mean-time, since the new SDK 0.9 got published, it is the
perfect time to start to get OpenIntents again into shape.
The basic idea of OI will stay the same: To provide common
functionality that can be used in many applications in a seamless way.
The prospect of having one or several app stores suggests to split the
big OpenIntents library into small independent mini-applications that
can be downloaded individually by end users.
Over the next couple of days or weeks, we will try to see how this can
be best accomplished. Independent mini-apps may be:
* shopping list
* generic alerts
* locations
* tagging
* basic media player and media browser
* sensor simulation
* dev tools like displaying a list of available intents
Some ideas that have been raised by various people on future mini-apps
include:
* a file browser, with intents to open / save files on the SD card
* sending secure intents between devices (to replace the
functionality that got dropped from m5 to 0.9)
* an alternative home-screen that allows for 3rd party widgets to be
included (the current home-screen only has a few hard-coded widgets)
* a web browser that can be scrolled by tilting the phone.
* ...
We welcome any ideas and wishes for new mini-apps that may be useful
for several applications.
Please add your thoughts to this discussion group. Also, if you are a
developer interested in working on some of the features, don't
hesitate to contact us here! Let's see what we can build together! :-)
