Thousands of children may have had swine flu without even knowing it, experts said yesterday. In infection hot-spots such as London and the West Midlands, up to a third of schoolchildren have had the virus, but fewer than one in ten have actually been ill, according to figures from the Health Protection Agency. Professor John Watson, head of the agency's respiratory diseases department, said at least half of those with swine flu would have had no symptoms. No Explanation For GSK's Canada Killer H1N1 Vaccine

The investigation into whether a batch of H1N1 vaccine may have triggered a higher-than-normal rate of allergic reactions hasn't yet come up with answers, vaccine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline said Tuesday. The lot, No. A80CA007A, comprised 172,000 doses of vaccine that were shipped last month to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island. By the time GSK issued the halt-use order last week, all but about 20,000 doses of the batch had been used, a spokesperson for the Public Health Agency of Canada says. "With the combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, reactions have occurred that are believed to be due to an antibiotic that is used in the production process," Dr Scott Halperin, a vaccine expert at Dalhousie University, says. Australia saw higher than expected rates of anaphylaxis when it rolled out its HPV vaccine campaign.

The Gardasil HPV Vaccine Scandal

Gardasil® is a drug that has been promoted to females as a cervical cancer vaccine. In fact it is a Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine. This drug has been promoted incorrectly as a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer in females. However trials done prior to it being licensed in 2006 did not observe that this drug would prevent cervical cancer. This drug has been promoted on misinformation supported by the Australian Health Department. The trials that were done for this drug were carried out for 2-4 years in the 16 -26 year age group - a demographic that rarely gets cervical cancer. In Australia less than one percent of women will be affected by cervical cancer – that is, 99 percent of women will not be affected by cervical cancer in their lifetime. Does this risk warrant all girls taking a drug that has not been tested for long-term health effects such as chronic illnesses and other adverse reactions and death, as has occurred in young women after vaccinatio n with Gardasil®? And for which the duration of the drug is unknown?
