travel and consumer bank transactions, has charged that she was given
only selective information at group meetings, that deliberations were
rushed and that group was "manipulated" by the
international pharmaceuticals industry. The report lays out, and
generally endorses, a number of public-private partnerships in the
developing world with some of the world's biggest pharmaceutical
firms.

Wow, what a year 2009
was for makers of the swine flu vaccine. CSL Limited's profits rose
63 percent above 2008 levels, while in the third quarter of 2009,
GlaxoSmithKline enjoyed a 30 percent jump in earnings to $2.19
billion. Roche, the maker of Tamiflu, saw second quarter profits leap
to 12 times what they were in that quarter of 2008. But in 2010, drug
companies may get their comeuppance. On Tuesday, the Council of
Europe launched an investigation into whether the World Health
Organization (WHO) "faked" the swine flu pandemic to boost
profits for vaccine manufacturers. Food and drug agencies in Canada,
the UK, France, the US, and elsewhere guaranteed vaccine
manufacturers that they would be shielded from any lawsuits connected
to the vaccines. This enabled companies to fast track the testing
process, reducing some trials to as little as five days.

Prompts Halt To Swine Flu Jabs
H1N1 flu vaccinations
among pregnant women have been suspended after a woman who received a
jab lost her baby to miscarriage a day later. The Public Health
Ministry yesterday denied any link between the vaccinations and the
foetal death, but as a precaution suspended flu shots among pregnant
women pending an investigation into the miscarriage in the southern
province of Satun.

President Steps In To Stop Mandatory Swine Flu Vaccine For Soldiers
President Vaclav Klaus
has stepped in to stop mandatory vaccination of Czech soldiers
against swine flu, telling Army staff the order to vaccinate all
16,000 soldiers was “highly controversial, if not
unacceptable.” President Klaus appears unconvinced that the
Czech Republic is in the grip of a swine flu epidemic. A number of
Czech doctors have publicly refused to vaccinate either themselves or
their patients, saying the possible health risks outweighed the
benefits.

Website Launched For Gardasil/Cervarix Vaccine Victims
Two North Carolina
women who met when their daughters both became sick after being
vaccinated by the same lot of the controversial Gardasil vaccine,
have launched a new Web site to help victims find information and
support at TruthAboutGardasil.org.
Between the two of them, they have been in contact with parents from
England, Spain, Germany, Holland and Australia, all with daughters
who suffered serious injury or died after receiving either Gardasil
or its European equivalent, GlaxoSmithKline’s Cervarix.
Comments are already pouring into the new site. One woman says her
granddaughter had her first Gardasil shot and “hasn’t
been the same since.”

As Criona Wilson knelt
beside her dying daughter’s bedside who had been disbelieved,
sectioned and forcibly removed from her home by psychiatrists, she
promised her that her death would not be in vain. Her battle saw her
take on the medical profession and accepted thinking about the
diagnosis and treatment of ME, also known as chronic fatigue
syndrome. Eventually, in 2006, a coroner ruled that Sophia’s
death was the result of myalgic encephalomyelitis — the first
such ruling at an English inquest.

This was the first All
Party Parliamentary Group on M.E (APPGME) meeting I'd ever been able
to attend and I've now seen for myself how the APPGME operates. Worst
of all was the surprisingly unprofessional and unhelpful behaviour of
the Chairman, Des Turner MP and the Secretary, the Countess of Mar,
right at the start of the meeting. Dr Charles Shepherd of the
discredited Myalgic 'Encephalopathy' Association (MEA) has produced
an account of the meeting on the MEA website that is false. It is not
just a distortion of the facts, it is blatantly wrong. This meeting
"got off to an extremely regrettable start", alright - but
not because of the M.E. patients present; it was thanks to the
Chairman's and Secretary's inability to control themselves. The
salaries of the public figures involved now published. And it's the
sick and disabled these people are supposed to help who are branded
"benefits scroungers"?

Drugs Industry Descends Into Criminal Marketing

published an investigative report by David Evans, “Big Pharma's
Crime Spree" documenting major court settlements: "Pfizer,
Eli Lilly & Co., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and four other drug
companies have paid a total of $7 billion in fines and penalties. Six
of the companies admitted in court that they marketed medicines for
unapproved uses."
The prescription drug industry has descended into criminal marketing
that
includes fraud, evidence falsification, bribery and
kickbacks--all to expand
the market.

Medicine Sales Soar As Patients Reject Dangerous Prescription Drugs
Sales of alternative
medicines are booming as consumers shake off their cynicism. Analysts
say the market has grown by 18 per cent in two years and is worth
£213million a year. And they predict sales will increase by 33
per cent to £282million over the next four years as more
patients reject prescription drugs in favour of natural remedies.
More people are exploring holistic approaches in favour of
potentially addictive prescription drugs.

Infuriates Families As Guilty Dr Jane Barton Keeps Her Job
Families
have reacted with disgust after a doctor who put their elderly
relatives at risk of death by prescribing "potentially
hazardous" levels of drugs escaped being struck off by the GMC.
Dr Jane Barton was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by
a Fitness to Practise Panel at the General Medical Council (GMC).
Panel chairman Andrew Reid said: "The
panel has found that there have been instances when Dr Barton's acts
and omissions have put patients at increased risk of premature
death."
Iain Wilson, from Gosport, whose 74-year-old father, Robert Wilson,
was one of the patients, shouted at the GMC Panel: "You
should hang your head in shame. You haven't done anything at all to
protect the public."

Unethical
MMR Doc's Just Guilty Of Caring
Surprise, surprise,
the doctor who highlighted a possible link between the MMR vaccine
and autism has been found guilty of a series of misconduct charges.
The General Medical Council (GMC) verdict, which ruled that Wakefield
and two eminent colleagues, Professors John Walker-Smith and Simon
Murch, had acted unethically, did not investigate whether Dr
Wakefield’s findings regarding a possible link between MMR and
autism were right or wrong. It focused on the methods of research
used, some of which were undoubtedly questionable. For hundreds of
parents, the thought that the GMC may now strike Dr Wakefield and his
colleagues off the medical register will amount to a light being
switched off in what is, for them, an already bleak world.

In September 1997 when
I met Andrew Wakefield, he was a young British gastroenterologist, a
rising star in the world of experimental medicine. It was five months
before he and 12 other physician colleagues would publish a study in
The Lancet calling for more research into a possible association
between inflammatory bowel disease, MMR vaccine and developmental
delays in some children. Dr Wakefield described to me the intense
pressure he had been under from senior health officials in Britain to
withdraw from our conference.

Guilty Of Misconduct
The GMC Panel wish to
make it clear that this case is not concerned with whether there is
or might be any link between the MMR vaccination and autism. The
Panel has found Dr Andrew Wakefield, Professors John Walker-Smith and
Simon Murch guilty of misconduct in their Findings Of Fact presented
on 28 January 2010. Amongst its findings, the GMC report delineates
Dr Wakefield's failure to disclose a patent application on a single
measles vaccine nine months before publication of The Lancet paper,
the proposed commercial formation of Immunospecifics Biotechnologies
Ltd to specialise in the production, fomulation and sale of Transfer
Factor together with the Father of one of the children in the study
and the contravention of research ethics throughout. The case against
Dr Wakefield and his colleagues will resume on 7 April - 11 June 2010
as the Panel decides what sanctions should be imposed on the doctors'
