Czech
Republic Refuses Baxter Swine Flu Vaccine Over Safety
Concerns
Prague
- The U.S. pharmaceutical firm Baxter which manufactures a vaccine
against the swine flu in its Czech branch will not ensure the vaccine
for the Czech Republic in the case of a pandemic, Baxter media
representative Jana Cechova told CTK today. The server tn.cz writes
that the Czech Health Ministry has explained its stopping the talks
with Baxter by the firm's inability to guarantee that the vaccine is
safe and who will bear the risks for possible side-effects.

Children Under Threat From Untested Swine Flu Vaccine
The
swine flu vaccine being offered to children
has not been tested
on infants
The swine flu vaccine which will be offered to 12
million children in the UK may not have been tested on infants by the
time the first batches arrive. Pharmaceutical companies manufacturing
the jabs do not have any paediatric safety data for the drugs, which
could be distributed to children in the autumn. Dr Tom Jefferson, of
the vaccines section of the Cochrane Collaboration, an independent
group that reviews research, said he feared there would be safety
issues with the jab and had doubts it would work.
