I've just seen two people get on with one snapper. The driver had to look up
his instructions on how to do it, but it seems you CAN pay for two people
with one card. Wonder why this isn't advertised?

I've wondered about this very thing. Good to know it can be done.

There's a lot of things about Snapper that it would be good to know...

This happened on my bus to work today too. The passengers insisted it
would deduct two fares, and the bus was delayed for several minutes
while the driver worked it out.

I asked the Horse's Mouth, Bruce Emson, ceo of NZ Bus and he replied:

"We have deliberately not promoted this as a key feature at this time,
because we want to give our drivers every opportunity to become fully
familiar with the system and do not want to slow down the boarding
process."

So now you know!

Well the PR/newspaper reporting has been terrible so far. I emailed snapper
twice and they didn't reply. Then I rang NZ Bus twice before I got an
answer. Child 10-trips are not being phased out yet, only adult tickets. And
they tell me that the GPS to tell the machines to change zones doesn't kick
in till the stop after the end of zone, to allow for buses that overshoot
the stop. Now all we need is customer and driver training, and more places
to buy the cards from.

And I thought this was a fishing story!

Some people need more training than others... I was behind someone this
morning who waved her card in the air in the general vicinity of the reader,
got an error "X", repeated the process and got another "X", then a woman
already on the bus said, in that special voice reserved for backwards
children, "press it against the fish..."

Those fashionably glossy-faced readers are going to get scuffed up very
quickly.

The "Tag on, tag off" slogan is poorly chosen, in my opinion, as is the name
Snapper. To match the slogan, it ought to be "Tagger". :-)
