Eve, I’m only a pretend Rubyist (being a GP who’s teaching myself Ruby/Rails) but I work in the Prison sector a bit, and what you’re doing here with young offenders is fantastic! I’m Manchester based but if there’s a way I could help I’d love to.

    Hello all,

Sheffield Rubyist here, would be interested to meet some of you at the next
meeting so I am just going to dive into it with a lightning talk if that
    would be okay with you.

Hey Marcus, would love to know more about your motivation behind learning RoR.
Have you made it to the Health 2.0 meetup - I've found it to a fantastic group, with alsorts of stakeholders in the room at the same time. I'm really interested in patient <-> GP communication & health monitoring systems, and the work that's going on it that area.

Cheers,
Ian.

Hi Ian, I learned RoR after doing some Codecademy stuff (HTML/CSS/JS then Python etc) but after a bit of Python I found it quite ugly as a language, Ruby being far prettier (sorry if that’s a dumb thing to say but beauty in a language is important) - also I knew some debs from NHS Hack Day and the Pythoneers were a bit dull, whereas the Rubyists were cooler ;-) (again, dumb, but true). Rails seemed attractive in terms of building web apps quickly and less painfully.

I’m currently involved in doing some BDD work in Cucumber for an open source healthcare company, and in spare time I’m trying to get involved with a ruby implementation of the openEHR specification for interoperable health records (github skoba/openehr-ruby). I know a fair bit about openEHR but am not quite good enough to be able to meaningfully help yet, although since the main guy Skoba is Japanese I’ve been helping with his documentation. He merged my first pull request today :-)

I’ve not been to Health 2.0 but it sounds good. Maybe I’ll try to make it there next time.

I have a lot of clinical experience and contacts/resources in the Digital Health area and would love to meet & work with local Rubyists.

M
