And I thought the "Nor'easter of <blank> reports were bad...the Weather
Channel has some poor shmuck standing out on the street in Braintree,
reporting on the snow that's forecast for *tomorrow*! Since when did
3-6" in Boston in January become a major story, even before the first
flake has fallen?

When it's the first snowfall of the season/year/2000's
Also, it's been 300+ days without snow. They need to get
reaclimated. :-)
BTW, you ought to see what happens when it snows in Las Vegas!
No plows, no experience, ... lots of fun!!!

It's a big story when it's the latest that snow has ever fallen
in recorded Boston history.

I could see it being worthy of a little interest, but is it really
important enough to have people standing around outside the night before
any snow has actually fallen? I suppose, it *is* the Weather Channel, and
it's not like they have anything better to report on. Still, it seems like
unnecessary hype. Bet there's no bread or milk left in the grocery stores
around here.

I'll usually just go into the text based screens. Call me nostalgic, but
I still like those old teletype-style formats. It's got all the non-hype
I need. It also has the fancy eye-candy animation loops if you link
into:

The site also has just about every detail concerning weather you could
want (radar from NEXRAD, GOES satellite imagery, etc. you name it). It
does a server push every 5 minutes for warnings, so you can set it and
forget it. I usually just keep a web browser window on the computer
opened up to it and check peek over there every now and then.

It's a major story because it really grabbed your attention. That's
what the news is about. If you watched the ads that followed, the TV
station won.

Since it became easier to put some bozo on the corner to talk about a non
event than it is to go out and actually do some investigation and actually
try and FIND some news on their own. Then again, it's our fault for
giving non-reporting like this ratings numbers...

I almost did a double take on January 2, after returning from my
week-long xmas vacation, and went grocery shopping to find half of the
shelves empty. It took me a moment to realize that Y2K fever had hit
while I was gone!

This was on the weather channel (as stated in the original post).
What were they (the weather channel) supposed to be investigating,
funding of the weather bureau???
But your comment would be valid if one of the other channels
had sent someone outside to do the report.
