Dear Friends,
Thanks again for coming in large numbers to the conference. On the final day of the conference, we had both the halls full. More than 1000 people attended the conference in the two days.
Here are the highlights:
- A
comprehensive draft bill on regulation of political parties being drafted under the guidance of former Chief Justice of India, Mr Venkatachaliah introduced in the
conference
- ICAI guidelines
on income tax returns presented to the political parties
- Representatives of DMK,
AIADMK, INC, MDMK, PMK and other parties give broad support to these initiatives
- The following resolutions
passed at the 7th National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms
The
NGOs and civil society organizations resolved to work in a non-partisan,
ethical and transparent manner.
They
endorsed the need for a comprehensive Bill on Reform of Political parties
They
endorsed the 27 recommendations prepared by National Election Watch (NEW) and
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on electoral and political reform.
T
hey
recognized the emerging threat of control of the State and Government by money
power and strongly opposed it.
