Hello, Mpir-devel.

New version of X-MPIR 0.2 - C# wrapper for MPIR, is released. It can
be downloaded from http://www.alglib.net/x/xmpir/xmpir-0.2.zip

The most essential thing in the new version is Linux support. It was
only tested with Ubuntu, but should work with any Linux distribution.

Windows version of interface aims for the binary compatibility -
program can be just copied to another system (even from 32 bits to 64
bits) and it will work. But Linux version takes another approach - it
should be rebuilt each time you install program on a new system
(because of well-known binary compatibility issues with different
distributions).

Plans for the near future:
* to improve installation system. Currently it is just a set of
scripts which must be executed in order to compile X-MPIR. Maybe
something closer to autotools is needed...
* to write a test suite for a new interface

Anyone with interest in C# wants to review new version of interface?

Hi Sergey,

Great work!

There are actually some Microsoft C# forums online where I would
imagine people would be interested to hear about this. I recall that
there were some attempts underway to provide a C# bignum library, but
I'm not sure how far they were getting. It's such a huge task.

Anyhow, I'm betting that if you advertised X-MPIR there (assuming it
was allowed according to their forum rules), that might bring a new
class of users to the bignum world!

Bill.

Also, is it worth making a very basic website for X-MPIR (just simple
text is fine). Then I could add a link to it from the MPIR website
(and next time I wrote the documentation for an MPIR release, add it
there too).

Bill.

The best things I've found so far are few forums for specific C#
numerical libraries. Looks like that there is no large forum dedicated
to numerical PROGRAMMING (in C# or in any other language).

I think that I'll try with forums I've found... But may be you can
give me some interesting links?

That would be excellent, but I think that it will take some time to
tell people that "Bignum + Performance != C/C++ only". However, I'll
keep trying :)

Yes, now it is time to do so. I'll try to do it step-by-step, adding
content in small incremental updates. However, I think that something
basic will be ready only on the next week. I'll write to this list
when it happens.
