Even though I've gotten everything working locally, both in production
with Mongrel and Thin, when installing on Heroku I can't get the bson
and bson_ext versions to match up, which results in app crashes.

For now, I've had to revert back to 0.7.2 to get my app back and
running.

Anyone have any hints?

Sounds like a gem dependency problem. Can you post your gemfile or environment.rb.

Best,

It was a problem with the BSON gems. Only one version can exist on the
server. Latest MM requires 1.0.3 and there is no BSON_EXT 1.0.3, so it
drops back to 1.0, which causes errors. MM will run without BSON_EXT
you just get these annoying log entries:

----------------------- log -------------------------------
**Notice: C extension not loaded. This is required for optimum MongoDB
Ruby driver performance.
You can install the extension as follows:
gem install bson_ext

If you continue to receive this message after installing, make sure
that the
bson_ext gem is in your load path and that the bson_ext and mongo
gems are of the same version.
--------------------- end log -------------------------------

With 1.0.3, you bson_ext 1.0.1.

Thought I had tried that before. Anyways, it all seems to work now
with this .gems file:

$ cat .gems
rails --version 2.3.8
bson --version 1.0.3
bson_ext --version 1.0.1
mongo --version 1.0.3
mongo_mapper --version 0.8.2
jnunemaker-validatable --version 1.8.4
plucky --version 0.3.2
