Welcome to the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition announcement
group. You indicated to us (either in person or in an online petition)
that it would be OK to contact you by email. This listserv is how we
can
do that with occasional messages.
We're
currently working to reverse WMATA's decision to implement random bag
searches; you may have added your name to our
petition against that
decision, and indicated that you would let us contact you by email in
the future.
We also advocate a "Civil Rights Restoration Act," based on a
model ordinance developed by the Bill of Rights Defense Committee, that
would protect our First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights by
preventing racial or religious profiling and warrantless surveillance, infiltration, or data
collection by local law enforcement, and that would give citizens recourse in the courts when abuses occur.
For discussion and more information, please visit the
Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition blog and join our
discussion listserv.
Again, thank you! We look forward to working with you!
