to Mock Tech Interviews
Hi, I am Ben and I am a programmer. I am looking for another
programmer or four to practice technical phone interviews with. Books
and tips on interviewing tactics and individual study can only go so
far. What I really need is experience. This experience is something I
would like to gain without using a job I'd like to get as practice. It
seems all the technical interview questions I come across on this
great internet I can solve without too much problem at my leisure,
however, it becomes much more difficult over the phone with someone I
don't know and the looming "don't mess this up" voice in the back of
my head.
Of course I would definitely like to practice in-person interviews
too, but we'll stick to what's easy for now.
I suspect I am not the only one out there with some technical prowess,
but virtually no interviewing experience and no phone interviewing
experience. In fact in my search for interviewing tips and problems, I
have come across a ton of blog comments and forum posts something to
the effect of, "OMG, I have a phone interview with Google/Microsoft/
Whatever tomorrow and I don't know what to expect! Help!"
I figure it could work like this: you join this group and reply to
this message. We exchange phone numbers, I call you and we interview
each other. The interviews could contain a couple questions regarding
stuff on the resume, maybe a "whats your biggest flaw?", then 4 or so
technical questions. Something similar to a phone interview with a
large IT company (goog, MS, etc.). Simple enough, right? We can even
pretend we are from some interesting company to throw in a little
nervousness. But I imagine trying to look smart to a stranger will be
enough :).
This invitation is extended to companies as well as individuals
(except of course that I wouldn't be asking the company how to reverse
a linked list). Anyone interested?
Let's get this going.
