PLENARY IV:
HOT TOPIC

Hot Topic: When Do We Know Enough To Stop Research on the Safety of
Wireless Communications?
Research funding related to the safety of mobile phones is rapidly
diminishing worldwide. While the substantial funding from industry
during the past 15 years has virtually stopped, the public agencies
have also dramatically reduced their funding in recent years. Some
industry representatives argue that based on the weight of evidence
from published studies, any significant EM hazards from wireless
technology for the 4 billion users can be excluded, and therefore, no
further research is needed. The opposition vehemently argues that it is
imperative to conduct further studies. The session will focus on
the science behind the interpretation of scientific results
with respect to safety and not on a review of current data nor risk
management. Three speakers will offer three different viewpoints before
opening up the discussion to the panelists and audience.
