Yesterday the topic of the  Final Plenary Session at next week's joint meeting of the Bioelectromagnetics Society (BEMS) and the European BioElectromagnetics Association (EBEA) was announced (http://bioem2009.org/), "When Do We Know Enough To Stop Research on the Safety of Wireless Communications?"  As you know, this meeting is dominated by industry.  The title of this topic clearly signifies they are terrified by the research and want to bring it to an end.  Below are the details of this session along with the speakers.

PLENARY IV: HOT TOPIC
Chair: Niels Kuster
Friday, June 19, 2009
10:40 - 12:10
Plenary Hall

Hot Topic: When Do We Know Enough To Stop Research on the Safety of Wireless Communications?

Research funding related to the safety of mobile phones is rapidly diminishing worldwide. While the substantial funding from industry during the past 15 years has virtually stopped, the public agencies have also dramatically reduced their funding in recent years. Some industry representatives argue that based on the weight of evidence from published studies, any significant EM hazards from wireless technology for the 4 billion users can be excluded, and therefore, no further research is needed. The opposition vehemently argues that it is imperative to conduct further studies. The session will focus on the science behind the interpretation of scientific results with respect to safety and not on a review of current data nor risk management. Three speakers will offer three different viewpoints before opening up the discussion to the panelists and audience.
