About the organizations to which Health Canada and the Royal Panel members defer: WHO and ICNIRP

There are two very well written letters below from Sharon Noble. Thank you Sharon for your continued efforts to make Canada a safer place. We all need to participate in this type of awareness, because our 'electro magnetic environment' is becoming more dangerous each day.

Dear Dr. Gupta,

Thank you so much for 'Toxic Childhood'. I watched both segments, but I found Sunday's most disturbing because it is so similar to the problem with which I and so many people I know are involved.

It is electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from cellphones, transmitters, WiFi, etc. and the fact that our children are being exposed to this toxin 24/7 without choice or awareness. I am certain that if this radiation could be seen or smelled, it would not be tolerated. But because it is undetectable unless you have an expensive meter, you aren't aware that you are being surrounded everywhere, in your home, at school, at work, constantly....

The history of microwave radiation is very interesting, and people like Barrie Trower, a physicist who was a spymaster for UK during the Cold War, are now revealing the studies done by governments (primarily the US) showing how to use this dangerous weapon. Since at least the 1970s it's been known that non-ionizing radiation (just like cellphone, etc) at specific frequencies could do neurological harm, and at other frequencies could cause cardiac problems. When the corporations began to use these frequencies for commercial purposes, this information was either not available or ignored. Consequently, the very technology which was used as weapons by our government has become part of our daily lives, causing harm especially to the most vulnerable -- babies in utero, children, elderly and those with impaired immune systems.

European countries, as well as Russia and China, have responded to recent scientific studies showing damage caused by non-thermal, non-ionizing radiation and many allow the public to be exposed to mere fractions of the amounts allowed in the US or Canada. The US and Canada follow the guidelines established by WHO and ICNIRP,the latter admitting that its standards are for thermal radiation only. These organizations have been signicantly funded by the corporations, or loaded with people beholden to the corporations. People, such as Michael Repacholi, as head of the EMR section of WHO, took more than $25 million from these corporations, and, in return, maintained the levels beneficial to the telecommunication industry.

Both the US's FCC and Canada's Health Canada defer to WHO and ICNIRP, and the public is reassured that there is no evidence that EMR can cause harm. All of this despite the many studies by independent scientists demonstrating harm of various types, e.g. Blood brain barrier leakage which could lead to dementia,DNA breaks, reduced melatonin.

The telecommunication industry is so powerful that it is virtually impossible for individuals, even large groups of us, to fight this battle alone. Thanks to the powerful lobby at every government levelit has been impossible so far to even get labels on cellphones advising people to keep them away from bodies and heads even though the manuals themselves provide this caution.

We need someone with your stature and concern to bring this issue to the public's attention. As many scientists have warned, this is a health problem of a magnitude we've never experienced before. It is insidious, long-term, and will affect generations to come.

Dear HESA Committee Members,

Instead of sending you more studies this week, I have opted to sending you information about the organizations to which Health Canada and the Royal Panel members defer -- WHO and ICNIRP.

Recently The British Medical Journal,has exposed the hidden ties that drove WHO to declare a pandemic, resulting in billions of dollars in profits for vaccine manufacturers. Several key advisors who urged WHO to declare a pandemic received direct financial compensation from the very same vaccine manufacturers who received a windfall of profits from the pandemic announcement. During all this, WHO refused to disclose any conflicts of interests between its top advisors and the drug companies who would financially benefit from its decisions.

This is nothing new. Similar financial relationships have been revealed between the key members of WHO and ICNIRP and the telecommunication industry. For example, Michael Repacholi headed the Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) Project for WHO until 2007. His group declared that the telecommunication transmitters on towers and the electromagnetic radiation and fields emitted by them, as well as other associated devices, were not dangerous.The Microwave News (Nov. 17, 2006) reported, and Repacholi later admitted, that the Project received large sums of money, funneled through the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In addition, Repacholi himself was receiving payment directly from Motorola. This despite the WHO's policy which states that: "... there cannot be industry representation on standard setting working groups." If taking money from Motorola does not constitute "industry representation", what does?

ICNIRP has a similar stated policy of independence. This hasnot prevented the very same industry-associated individuals working with WHO (of which there are many)from being on ICNIRP's panels. Combined assessments, the same studies, the same people lead to the same conclusions -- no evidence of harm from non-thermal radiation. ("Conflict of Interest & Bias in Health Advisory Committees: A case study of the WHO's Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Task Group" by Don Maisch, Journal of Australian College of Nutrition and Environmental Medicine, Vol. 25, No. 1 (April 2006).

It is time that Health Canada acknowledged that basing our Safety Code 6 on WHO's and ICNIRP's recommendations is wrong. Further, by allowing members of the Royal Society who have been associated with WHO and Michael Repachoi, to determine that Safety Code 6 is adequate, ensures that industry's influenceon WHO and ICNIRP is perpetuated in Canada.

I ask the HESA Committee to direct Health Canada to employ independent scientists, not those on the Royal Panel who have worked closely with Dr. Repacholi and WHO (e.g. Daniel Krewski, Mary McBride, R. Habash), to review all relevant research with a view to develop an EMR code that truly will protect Canadians from harmful levels of radiation.
