Review cards and same card shows up 3 times in a row

I'm doing my scheduled reviews, and once I reach zero, I continue to
catch up on the cards I missed. I've run across this many times,
where if I miss a card, it immediately shows up again. However, it
seems like more and more, the same card is showing up 3 times in a
row.

Is this an intended part of the programming with the algorithm? Is
there a plug-in to avoid this? Has this been fixed in version 2.x?

It is fixed in 2.0.
