SLC: Another politician that is trying to direct the way things are
operated in Kentucky. Perhaps he should advocate for the termination of
the wasteful Interstate 66 project, opposed for its cost and
environmental damage that will occur as a result that is only strongly
favoured in ... Pike County.

Yarmuth wants quick action on Spaghetti Junction

A plan that calls for reconfiguring the tangled Spaghetti Junction as
the last part of the Ohio River bridges project is "totally
unacceptable," U.S. Rep.-elect John Yarmuth said on Friday.

Speaking at a lunch forum in Louisville, Yarmuth said he supports the
Ohio River bridges project but questions a timeline that calls for an
East End bridge to be built first, followed by a downtown span, before
completing the downtown interchange in 2024.

"It would be disastrous for downtown, because if we wait ... 18 years
to fix Spaghetti Junction, we will have a massive parking lot in this
community," Yarmuth said.
Yarmuth was criticized for allegedly opposing an eastern bridge during
his successful campaign against incumbent Rep. Anne Northup.

But on Friday, he noted, "This community and in Southern Indiana have
come to a consensus that we need to build two bridges" and fix
Spaghetti Junction. "That is the policy of this community, and that
is the policy that I will do my best to make sure comes to pass."

His remarks came during a lunch meeting of the "Ivy Forum," a group
of local Ivy League alumni at Vincenzo's restaurant. Yarmuth also
reflected on the recent election and gave a forecast of how the
incoming Democratic majority in Congress will affect issues from the
federal minimum wage to the war in Iraq.
