Hi!

Can anyone please tell me if any issues are foreseen when deploying mifos and Java VM (32-bit) on 64-bit Windows server 2008?

on a 32 bit JVM I am reasonably confident that this will work. FYI: I myself, and surely others, are developing Mifos on 64bit OS.

On a 64 bit JVM you would see some memory issues, don't try.

Not sure about mysql - probably best to run that on 32bit as well (on the 64 bit OS), unless you have a particular reason to run that on 64bit (may or may not be fine, I simply have no experience).

Yep, I am too. But it was a mistake, next time I set up a new
GNU/Linux desktop I'll use a 32-bit OS.

32-bit systems with PAE support tons of RAM and, from what I've
seen, no impact on performance. Unless you know you need a 64-bit
OS, you probably don't.

I agree here. Mifos doesn't need large blocks of memory, so no need
for a 64-bit JVM.

On a related note, check this out:

If you're running large (memory-wise) JVMs on GNU/Linux (like Mifos!),
making malloc() fail fast might be useful.

Installed mifos-v2.1.4 on W7|32|2GB  and W7|64|4GB. For 2 -3 users do not see significant difference.... but web server starting faster on 64 (was expecting that).  Please note 2.2.1 does not work ( installed only on 64 bit). when changed war to older version - 2.1.4 then everything is all right.   May be doing something wrong? Used same doc  for 2.1.4 , by the way script names where changed and manual has to be updated. In future better not to change common names. || regards  MFI team. 2:45 AM :-)

If I have 64 bit machine - should I installed 32 bit Java / Tomcat ? Is it what you are suggesting?  (for Windows?)

Yes, it is possible to install 32 bit Java on 64 bit Windows or Linux,
The suggestion is to use 32 bit Java.

It also depends on your understanding about Java, usually there are
not many factors which will come into play when you are using Mifos.

You can increase the limit the of Java memory if you are using 64 bit
JVM, and 64 bit JVM does not mean that it will double the space
required by Mifos.

If you want to skip all these technical details then ask some
specialist for hosting Mifos for you.
