In trach changes, can deletions be displayed in strikethrough, as previously?
For unknown reasons, in Word 2002 (not Windows XP, that's a different
product) Microsoft left out the settings for deleted text in the Track
Changes Options dialog. They were put back for Word 2003.
It's still possible to set the options through the macro window. You
need to do this only once, unless you change your mind about the
settings you want.
Press Alt+F11 (shortcut for Tools > Macro > Visual Basic Editor). In
the editor, select View > Immediate Window, which opens a pane at the
bottom of the editor. Copy these two lines and paste them into the
pane:
Options.DeletedTextMark = wdDeletedTextMarkStrikeThrough
Options.DeletedTextColor = wdAuto
Put the cursor on the first line and press Enter, then put the cursor
on the second line and press Enter. Close the Visual Basic editor
window.
In the Track Changes Options dialog, turn off the balloons. Your
deletions will now appear as strikethrough text in black.

Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org
I have tried it with a simular VBA-module found in this newsgroup, just
leaving a side markup in the margin were deleted text stood, but it resulted
in strange page break behaviour. I forgot how the module was (because of
selective memory? ;))
