I have a newer PC now and they installed Office 2000
Professional with Word 2000 (same as before). They then
installed Adobe 6.0 (previously I had 5.0) This is the
only new software that was installed. Now when I call up
a program (.dot file) the icon in the menu flashes then
disappears. If I select Tools - Customize then click ok,
my icon magically re-appears. The problem is that non
technical users will never understand having to do this.
If it's not right there on the toolbar - they don't know
what to do.
Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be greatly
appreciated.
The problem is most likely something that the Adobe Addin
template is doing. Generally, the Adobe versions follow the
Word versions in parallel (Adobe needs to update their
template to work with the idiosyncracies of new Word
versions). So a newer version will behave differently. And
Adobe Addins are also a bit notorious for causing problems.
I'd say: Remove the Adobe addin from Word's STARTUP folder.
When a user needs it, they can activate it through
Tools/Templates and Addins. Alternately, you could try
whether using code in the template that's providing these
toolbar buttons; have it explicitly load the Adobe Addin
(again, from another folder) after everything else has
finished loading and see if that makes any difference.
