Hi all,
I am running Swedish XP Pro version. Thre are frequent
hangs. My Partition Magic 7.0 says "error 993. Partition
contains open files. Use the operating system check
utility". Since I could not find the equivalent in my
system I tried to reinstall XP, but the installation
halted after restart when the program could not read the
file "\$WIN_NT$. ~BT\vga850.fon. Error code 14".
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Ravinder

When you start your computer, be ready to select the current install. Do not
let it continue with the reinstallation. If you can get booted up, run the
following:

Start, Run, cmd

At the command prompt type: chkdsk C: /F

This will run a disk check of C: drive and fix errors.

Thanks Rich for the tip, but chkdsk doesn't find any
problem with the partition and simply restarts the
system! Any further guess?
Thanks

My only suggestion at this point is to restart the installation. If there is
no data you want to save, use the XP installation setup to delete and
recreate the partition and reformat it. Do a full format.
