Can't Install IIS with and then without SP3

Hi everyone,

I installed SP3 and have all other updates installed. Then, when I tried to
install IIS, I got the error message "Setup cannot copy the file staxmem.dll"
It then asks me to insert the Windows XP Service Pack 3 CD and points to the
following location to copy files from - "c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386"

I did not have an SP3 CD, so I downloaded and installed a new staxmem.dll
file but I still got the same error message when I trried to install IIS.

I uninstalled SP3 and rebooted but I still get the same error message.

How do I get IIS to install?

Integrate SP3 into your Windows XP installation CD.
Use the resultant new CD to install IIS...

(Google "Integrate SP3 into Windows XP" and/or "slipstream service pack into
Windows XP"...)

I don't have a Windows XP Pro CD becasue the OEM version of XP Pro cam with
my computer. Now what?

CD? There would be no more room on the XP Pro CD.

manually clean up after the unistall of SP3?

nLite should make Slipstreaming/Integrating easy for you - if you want to go
that route.

Integrating a service pack into your original XP install is known as
"slipstreaming." Once the new "install" process is completed, you
will need to create (aka burn) a new CD. Microsoft seems to be
permitted.

How is the OPs inability to integrate Windows XP SP3 (which came out 6 or so
years after the initial OS release) into their own CD an "MS Screw Up"?

Or - are you trying to state that an inability to install IIS 6.x onto a
Windows XP SP3 system with a Windows XP CD that is pre-SP3 (possibly
pre-any-service-pack) is a "MS screw up"?

Or - are you saying that the OP should not expected to be intelligent enough
to figure out how to utilize an Internet search engine given the exact
search terms to use and only needing to get to the actual Internet search
engine itself to utilize it? Or that I should not treat the OP like they
are likely intelligent enough to do so?

So - I am unsure what part of my (a volunteer) giving advice to someone (the
OP) and helping them not only figure out their problem - but giving them the
tools to utilize in the future to solve the other problems bound to come up
surrounding their usage of whatever technology they decide to use is
considered a "waste" or a "MS Screw up"...

I am interested to find out though - given the whole story presented above.
