I think I have got the answer but don;t know if this will
really fix it, and if it will how do do this....

Please help me, as I am so frustrated with WinXP right
now..

Here is my problem.although I have more than just this,
to fix..

Here Is What I Have Got:

When running Group Policy on XP Pro:

Snap-in Failed to Initialize.

Name: Group Policy

CLSID:{8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}

Click OK and MMC opens with "Snap-in Creation Failed"
and "The snap-in is not created, it may not be installed
properly"

This also happens with other Snap-Ins I try to use :(

Tried extracting fresh copies of these files from the
WinXP Pro CD to HD with no luck.

So I did a search in this news group and I find this from
another thread, but don't understand how to set the Path
environment variable, like they are talking about, can
someone please help me out? And will this fix my problem?
Here is what I found:

Great - try placing the part for the Fortran app at the
end
of the path. It apparently has a copy of an onld version
of
some dll in its directory, so this will let the newer run
but
you will still fall through to the app for things that
are only
there.

Well...I tried a variation. I deleted part of the path
that was added for
a
FORTAN program. It now works. Hmm. Not a very solid fix
but. I'm happy
for
now. Thank you Roger Abell for you Uninstaller
suggestion.

I have the exact same error. I've also tried the same
fix. I checked
the
path environment and it lists what you specified
below. If anyone has
any
more suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Have you cured this problem? I have just encountered
the exact
same issue, and it turned out to be that the Path
environment
variable had been set to nothing by an application's
uninstaller.
Setting it to
c:\windows\system32;c:\windows;c:\windows\system32\wbem
cured it for me (replace c: with appropriate drive
letter).

Ideas?

Tried extracting a fresh copy of secpol.msc from the
i386 dir. No
help.

To set the path variable:

1. Right-click on My Computer
2. Click Properties
3. Click the Advanced tab
4. Click the Environment Variables button
5. In the System variables section, click the Path entry
6. Click the Edit button
7. Change the path to the correct value.

For your particular problem, you should make sure that the following is part
of the path:

%systemroot%\system32\wbem

If the \wbem folder is not part of the path you will get the "Snap-in Failed
to Initialize" error that you are seeing.
