dwwin.exe - DLL Initialization Failed

This is driving me nuts. Every shutdown of one of my XP's this pops up,
only to get cut off because the machine is closing down.
I've done the selective startup routine...no dice.
The error appears in System log but there is no corresponding Application
event. All drivers are reporting Ok and all updates are installed.
I've done sfc /scannow.

(which, as usual, is no help at all. You'd think after all these years that
Windows could actually tell you what device/driver etc is causing the
problem!
I've turned off error reporting (except for crucial system events).
Have Googled this to death and still no wiser.
Any ideas anyone?

Well, the problem not this file, the file is the Microsoft Application Error
Reporting.
Try and Run the system file checker command by doing the following:
Open a run command type in:

So it will wise if you look into your Event Viewer log and see if there are
any Error Messages (X) caused by Applications/Hardware and double click (X)

To access the Event Viewer do the Following:
Open a run command and type in the input box:
eventvwr click [OK] / Hit [Enter] on your keyboard.
Here you are on the Event Viewer you will see three Folders:
Application
Security
System
By clicking on each you will see the Event Log for it in the Right
pane/window look for any Red X and double click it get the exact Error and
the application name.
The same with the other two.

Thanks Nass, I've done all that but I will read up more about it. As it
obviously isn't anything serious I'm not going to panic.....yet.

Solved. It was Samsung's new "Magictune Premium" - once uninstalled the
pop-up disappeared.
Their version for Vista was dodgy too, had to uninstall that as it never got
past UAC at every boot.
