Just noticed...although I have automatic updates on zero updates since last
year!

So tried to do this manually...

Says checking computer has the latest version...click Express or Custom
I click Express
Says checking on latest updates...
hen says Files required to windows update are no longer registered or
installed on your computer..
...to continue click Register or reinstall files (recommended)
So clicked this...
Says downloading the latest updating software
..then get the choice of clicking Express or Custom buttons again!!

Seems to be in a loop.

Any advice please?

Thanks. Dave

Hi,

Click start/run, type %WINDIR%\WINDOWSUPDATE.LOG and click ok. This should
open the log in notepad. Scroll to the bottom, look for the latest visit and
an error code in the format of 0x00000000. Reply to this message with this
error code.

Windows Update tells me I need to update the Windows Update software. But I keep getting in a loop about needing to update the software.

Hi,

Click start/run, type REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL and click ok. You should get a
message about the file being successfully registered. Then retry the update
site.

Hello,

Try to register these files using the run menu.
Start> Run >
regsvr 32 Softpub.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

This should most likely fix the problem.
