I no longer have windows xp help and support. If I click on the link in the
start menu then the egg timer starts for a second, then stops. still nothing
happens. I have also lost the ability to use remote assistant and any
troubleshooting guides. I tried several restore points but to no evale.
Can anyone please help

All the best

Rick

If you've run Toni Arts Easy Cleaner on your XP installation, and allowed it to delete what it found in the registry, then your Help and Support will not run. Easy Cleaner deletes the values of 2 necessary Registry keys. See my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP section. Follow the appropriate link for Fix Window XP Help. This small VB Script will repair the damage done by Easy Cleaner. Note: other Registry cleaning programs cause the same problem.

Hi Rick,

In addition to the edit, see if this helps:

Go to Start/Run and type in: helpctr -regserver

You may also want to verify the winh32hlp.exe version listed under
System32. After installing XP SP1, the newer version isn't placed
there properly.

Workaround: Replace the one from the servicepackfiles with the one
listed under System32.

Restore winhlp32.exe for XP or XPSP1 (Line 57)

I also have had no Help & Support since installing XP.
I tried all your suggestions and still get a window
"Helpctr.exe - Entry Point not Found" and the error message
"The Procedure Entry Point _InitAsyncTrace@0 could not be found in DLL
atrace.dll"

Sure would appreciate help with this problem, Thanks.
