Have a PC which I ave Hotmail as the default email client. And my USER is
setup to automatically login into passport. When I click on an email link
in IE, instead of Hotmail opening up I get an error in the browser....

Fatal Login Error. hr = 80041035, f = -2147217355

What is causing this? Using the latest WinXP SP2.

I have the same problem as well and have no idea as to why this happens! I
know you probably didn't want that as my repy to your post, but perhaps if
enough people have the same problem something may be done to fix it??? (I
also run Windows XP SP2 as my OS.) I have always used Outlook Express as my
default email client and the only reason I switched to Hotmail is due to my
DSL provider using MSN as their browser. If the problem continues I'm
switching back to Outlook Express!

It is frustrating. Have tried reseting the passport defaults for the user
as some people suggest but it still does not work. Can't believe we are the
only two.

Thanks for the response.

I just encountered the same problem. Using one account, user...@msn.com, I
can log in directly through Hotmail, but following any "mailto:" link gives
the fatal error. BUT, on the same PC, if I use a different
usre...@hotmail.com account, I have no problem logging in. I was able to
replicate this on two other PC's, so it seems to be a problem with either the
individual account or msn.com.

Any progress or new thoughts?

Most likely something is messed up in our registries. Very
frustrating. I do notice that the systems seems to change my IE
defined programs to Outlook over Hotmail occasionally for some reason.
We are really at the mercy of the Windows registry at this one I think,
so will be tough to track down. Hopefully someone can tell us what to
clear out that could be causing the problem.

You're not the only ones. I'm having the same problem on both my laptop and
desktop computers. Both running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. I'm waiting to
see if the Windows Live Mail Beta folks can find a solution. I'll let you
know if they come up with anything.
