XP Pro started taking a long time to start up

Its taking longer and longer for my screen to show the XP MS logo, this past
two weeks. At first I thought something was drastically wrong, but then it
fires up. I have nothing on my Start program, selecting what I need when I'm
up and running after my Windows password is validated.

Running IE 6++ SP2, XP Pro, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, AVG, MS Firewall, Zone
Alarm, and compress my OE offline, daily. Run AVG daily, and Ad-Aware,
Spybot S&D about 3X/week and update each time. Just ran Penicillin House
Call and all's well.

Any ideas? This is scaring me, but I've backed up everything in ScnDisks.

Your AV apps will likely not show in your Start folder.
If indeed you are running both MS Firewall & ZoneAlarm (firewall?) they will
likely conflict
msconfig will show what is starting up
And how does it start up in safe mode?
How much free space is on C?
How much ram?

Have you looked at Error Reports in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

What do you mean by start program? If you are referring to the startup
folder on the start menu, that is only one of the places where programs
start at boot. Run msconfig.exe and look at the startup tab. There may be
entries you don't recognize and if so, search on Google.com to see if they
are essential to be starting at boot.
