Using a parallel cable, my Epson AP-5000 printer uses 100% of my cpu for the
length of time it takes to print a document. Given that I have other things
to do while it prints, I found this unacceptable. I was advised in a MS
KnowledgeBase article that I should use a USB to Parallel adapter cable to
make use of USB's better data throttling and control to solve the problem.
When I plugged one of these devices into my printer and computer, I find
that I get an extra line feed between each line of print, whether it be an
image or text. That's even less acceptable than the 100% CPU usage. Am I
missing something here? Is there a setting somewhere in the OS, MS Word, or
in the printer itself that needs to be set for the cable to work properly?
I'm at a loss for what to try at this point. Any suggestions welcome and
appreciated!

Generally cable convertors can be problomatic, one may be fine, another not
so
See if your Epsom has updated drivers & firmware avilable, when using
parallel

Is there a control panel for the printer ? The last driver I could
see listed for it, was Win98. How is it running in your system ?
Is a driver of some sort being used with it ?

It could be there is an "AutoLF" function in the control panel or
interface somewhere. I mean, if this was a problem with the
USB to parallel part of this question, then tons of people would
suffer from the problem.

Just a guess,
Paul

In your original posting you included two attachments.
- QMARK.GIF - Orange up arrow with yellow questionmark in front
of it.
- ARROW.GIF - Red up arrow, faded at the bottom.

As to the way OldDuke chose to let you know - that is their perogative. I
believe a complete explanation might assist you to avoid it in the futture
if you so desire.

You seem to be using Microsoft Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606 to post, here is

The rest of us don't want your fuckwit postings, but we get them anyway.

What pictures are you on about anyway? Even if present, they aren't on your
hard drive unless you are stupid enough to open them. Oh, I see your point.

I have no clue how they got there. And they certainly had nothing to do
with the subject that I was discussing.

Paul,

Thanks for your suggestions. I found a dip switch on my printer that is
supposed to suppress a line feed after each line of print. It was correctly
set to "off" and worked properly that way when used with my old parallel
cable. Not knowing what else to do, I switched it to the "on" position.
Logically it should have given me two line feeds between each line of print
but instead gave me the zero line feeds I needed. So all is well now with
my adapter installation and I can do other stuff while my Epson is printing.
Hats off to you!

People respond better to you when you are polite. Your rude response to my
inadvertent error only succeeded in getting me mad. How would you have felt
if I had responded to that anger by posting some deliberate images, oh say,
several gig in size? Hmmmmm?

Shenan,

Thanks for bringing those attachments to my attention in a polite manner.
After reading your post carefully several times over, I still don't know how
the attachments got there or how your explanation would have helped prevent
them from being attached. Right now I'm scanning my drive for malware,
which seems at this point to be the most likely explanation for what
happened. In the mean time. I recommend no one be foolish enough to open
the attachments. Like they say, curiosity killed the cat!

OldDuke is our resdent fuckwit (in case you hadn't guessed by now). He
complains about others posting perfectly acceptable material in this
newsgroup but continually posts the same identically worded (and unwanted)
post. He is mentally ill, hence his continued obsession with something that
every one else is perfectly happy with. He is so ill that he will now post
a response pointing out that which he keeps pointing out, and everone else
points out that he is wrong.

He seems to have finished his homework early today.
