Then had to uninstall all the new ones and reinstall the old one, so I
guess I don't get SP3 ??
Any Ideas?
Thanks

It is officially out yet and as such is unfinished. Don't you read the
posts here?
John.
Sorry, that should have read 'It's NOT officially out yet'.
John.
<sigh> - it's not released as FINAL yet, it's still only BETA......
use the SP3 forums on technet for any problems...

SOME people did - not all. And they did nothing special to make it
happen. That is not news.
>It is officially out yet and as such is unfinished
Just because it is not officially out, does not mean that it's not
finished.

Go to Windows Updates | Change Settings | Advanced. Checked it offers:
Show beta products and related updates.........
Microsoft Update can offer you pre-released "beta" versions of products as
they become available.
NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for testing and
evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software on your primary
computer or production environment.
Uncheck it and | Apply Changes.

they didn't unless you installed the registry update....

Two guesses:
- You didn't get offered Microsoft Windows XP SP3 (you may have been offered
SP3 for something - but maybe not for Windows XP.) Do you have Office 2003
or Office XP (2002)? Both of those products have SP3's and you would not be
the first to have thought they were getting Windows XP SP3 when one of those
two popped up.
- You have the advanced option turned on for
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ that states...
"Show beta products and related updates
Microsoft Update can offer you pre-released "beta" versions of
products as they become available.
NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for
testing and evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software
on your primary computer or production environment."
However - I can pretty much negate the second option - it does not offer
Windows XP SP3 AFAIK <- but I needed two things. ;-)

If *you* weren't so quick to admonish someone, you probably would have
gotten the post correct the first time. People have other things to do
sometimes other than read all the threads here! You don't know that person's
life situation.

We still don't know if OP's referring to WinXP SP3 or...
Nevertheless, WinXP SP3 is still in beta.

I think I can clear this up. I received an email from Dave Brehm with a
screenshot. While I will not attach binaries - I have no problem putting it
up on Google. ;-)

As you can see, Dave Brehm was offered Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 2
through AU. My guess is that this happened because the registry hack was
applied to the system in order to allow it - but whatever - it was a version
of Windows XP SP3 <-- just obviously not the final (unreleased as of now)
version. ;-)

It is rocket science! Messages in Windows XP.general tend to be more
about windows than Office. Does this help you.

There are enough dummies posting here that the question NEEDED to be
asked.
Thank you.
