So whats the deal.
It went to install...archived all the old files, installed the new ones,
Then an ACCESS DENIED

Then had to uninstall all the new ones and reinstall the old one, so I
guess I don't get SP3 ??

Any Ideas?
Thanks

They did not"send it"to you..........unless you did something to make
Windows Update see the SP3 RC2.
I use Windows Update and I do not see any SP3 RC2.
IF I run the script from Microsoft that allows Windows Update to"see"the SP3
then I would be able to download it IF I wanted.
It's not there to see in windows update unless windows update settings are
changed by you.

SOME people did - not all. And they did nothing special to make it
happen. That is not news.

Go to Windows Updates | Change Settings | Advanced. Checked it offers:

Show beta products and related updates.........

Microsoft Update can offer you pre-released "beta" versions of products as
they become available.

NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for testing and
evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software on your primary
computer or production environment.

Uncheck it and | Apply Changes.

It took me just over an hour for the complete install on my XP2 Home with no
errors. Everything now is working as it was. It even appears to have
slightly increased the overall speed of the system although I have no way of
proving that.

Two guesses:

- You didn't get offered Microsoft Windows XP SP3 (you may have been offered
SP3 for something - but maybe not for Windows XP.) Do you have Office 2003
or Office XP (2002)? Both of those products have SP3's and you would not be
the first to have thought they were getting Windows XP SP3 when one of those
two popped up.

- You have the advanced option turned on for
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ that states...

"Show beta products and related updates

Microsoft Update can offer you pre-released "beta" versions of

products as they become available.

NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for
testing and evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software
on your primary computer or production environment."

However - I can pretty much negate the second option - it does not offer
Windows XP SP3 AFAIK <- but I needed two things. ;-)

MS may be sending these to everyone in one of their databasees or randomly
to a percentage to try to broaden the testing base as the product moves
towards release. It still should not be installed on a production or primay

Yes. The TechBeta testers who are the ones working with it the longest

I think I can clear this up. I received an email from Dave Brehm with a
screenshot. While I will not attach binaries - I have no problem putting it
up on Google. ;-)

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/zHODlHFYZ85Kix5H1nRpBw

As you can see, Dave Brehm was offered Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate 2
through AU. My guess is that this happened because the registry hack was
applied to the system in order to allow it - but whatever - it was a version
of Windows XP SP3 <-- just obviously not the final (unreleased as of now)
version. ;-)

Bear with me, PLEASE, since this is the first time I have used a MS
discussion board. I'm looking at all posts from February and see none from
March, so I picked yours, since it was the latest and you are using SP 3. I
installed Sp3 BETA back in January, after a HORRIBLE episode trying to use
iTunes. My comp crashed and I didn't have an SP2 CD to help me correct my
problems. I also noticed that 3 months of Win updates had also failed. I
forget where I saw the SP3 BETA update, BUT, not having the SP2 CD, I chose
the only option I had that wouldn't bitch me about a Product Key.
Since installing SP3 BETA, I havn't noticed any MAJOR problems and NO
slowdown of my comp. About the only thing I have noticed is that sometimes I
don't get all the icons I should have displayed by the clock, in regard to
the programs I am running. Other than that, everything has been fine since
January.
My major concern is about WIN XP Updates for security purposes and if
this BETA product is going to be made FINAL, since Micorsoft is planning on
killing the sale of XP in 3 months.
I hope some of my info has helped you. If you have any NEW info to
enlighten me, PLEASE, contact me.

If you installed SP3, you should have known that this is not a public
release. Its possible it has bugs. Thus its understandable that
things are not right. SP2 is the last SP release for PUBLIC use.
SP3 is only for qualified testors.
