My Mum & Dad just got their first computer running XP Home and they
bought Norton anti-everything!

They keep getting a message popping up from the toolbar saying "Rules
automatically created for the program: Microsoft Generic Hot Process
for Win 32 service".

It disappears after a few seconds but is very annoying.

I presume it is Norton 'learning' or 'accommodating' windows functions
but can the popups be switched off and if so how. Presume eventually
they will cease.

Any help appreciated.

Open Options for Worm Protection>Select Program control
>rule for Generic Host Process.
Delete the rule.

When the next notification comes up, after you say permit, it will be
stored properly.

You should go to Norton properties and look for some way to turn it off..
the Symantec website probably has an FAQ that covers this issue..

The Symantec website also has 'removal' tools which come in very handy.. :-)
