You probably need to be a bit more specific so that everybody trying to help
you does not waste their time duplicating what you have already tried. It's
pretty obvious that if you had looked "everywhere", you would have found it,
fixed it, and the problem would not be posted here. Tell us where have you
already looked, and then we will suggest more places.

Firstly, I checked the the start menus, including all
users and username, I checked msconfig, no entry there, I
checked registry at
currentuser/software/windowsnt/winlogon and another
location which I can't remember but both failed to
prevent this occurring. thanx

Is it fair to assume that while looking in all these places, you were not
only looking for a "My Documents" reference, but any reference to
"Explorer"? The XP default Explorer shortcut opens to My Documents.

That is not at all what it means. What it means is: "besides looking for a
"My Documents" reference, have you looked for any reference to
"Explorer"? The XP default Explorer shortcut opens to My Documents. For
instance, if there is an entry in any of the "Run" sections of the registry
with the single word "Explorer" as a data entry, it will open your "My
Documents" folder every time you log on. Same holds true for the StartUp
folders, except here it can be camoflauged by naming it anything, but having
it point to either "Explorer" or "My Documents". I can create a shortcut
pointing to "Explorer" and name it Bread Pudding. You will want to check the
properties of every item in all StartUp folders.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

In the right pane under Userinit, Change the key that reads:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe

To: C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,
