How to use the UPHClean?

Download it, install it, forget it.

The service is set to automatically start when the computer boots so you
will
not need to start it manually.

If you experience slow logoff (with Saving your settings for most of the
time while logging off), you are having profile unload problems.

If you see a lot of Userenv/1517, Userenv/1524 or Userenv/1500 errors in the
Event Viewer, download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.

This decreased my shutdown time a bunch. Takes any where from 10 to 20
seconds to shutdown.

C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe is added.

The User Profile Hive Cleanup service gets added to Services and
uphclean.exe will run all the time. I am one that doesn't like to have any
extra services running, but I am sold on UPHClean.

In fact, this MSKB article recommends:
"To resolve this issue, use the Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
(UPHClean). UPHClean monitors the computer while Windows is unloading user
profiles and forces resources that are open to close. Therefore, the
computer can unload and reconcile user profiles."

I have installed it, but can't figure what to do with the notepad
instructions, I am a novice when it comes to DOS and command prompts. Is this
automatically working at startup as one of you stated? I will now look at the
task menu, I see no UHP listed, when i click on it in my folder UPH clean it
seems to do nothing I can see,

It runs as a service, you need to find Administrative tools and find
"Services".

Or you can go start>run and then type services.msc in the box there.

Then it's working automatically at startup.

Generally, you do not have to anything.

To see if it's running.

Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | Click the Processes tab | Listed as uphclean.exe

Look in Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to User Profile Hive Cleanup |
If you see Started under the Status column, it's running.

If not, Double click User Profile Hive Cleanup | Set to Automatic under
Startup type | Click the Start button | When started click OK | Close
Services

What confused me is from kellys corner about using regedit, and putting the HK stuff in the registry, when I made the folder, it called it KEY 1, when i tried to enter that command, HK?? control etc, it asked me stuff I am not familar with so I deleted the folders, I am not familar with DOS prompts etc. So now I see it is running. I thought I had to do a hard thing from the instructiions, and couldn't do it. So the download and zip file already took care of it all.

thank you
