Went to enable "view all folders" today and under the
tools tab on the toolbar ( of any folder) the folder
options tab is missing. It was ok yesterday. Any ideas on
how to get the folder options tab back?

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Fix Internet Options Restrictions.
While this script was intended to correct Internet Options problems, it also
corrects the Folder Options problem, since the two are somehow linked.

Ok thanks, the folder options tab is back where it
belongs but when I click on folder options, than the view
tab, the window that opens doesn't look the same as it
did before it disappeared, before when you clicked on the
folder options, than view, a few lines down it gave the
option of showing hidden files, I don't see that now. Any
idea's?

I know of edits to disable changing any options there, while leaving the tab
in place, and edits to add things to it, but I'm not familar with any that
would simply remove a single option.

The tab hasn't just changed by the lack of the "show
hidden files" option, everything that was in that window
before, is different now, I believe it used to also have
options for active x settings etc, thanks for your help.

There is no folder options tab, only General, View (which is where Show Hidden Files is), FileTypes, and Offline Files in the folder options dialog.

So what is missing.

I'm talking about when you click on the view tab their is
a window under where it says "advanced options" the
content of this window looks different now than it did
before the folder options tab disappeared, under advanced
options mine says: files and folders, than lists 16
different options that you can select by putting a check
in a box, before I noticed the folder options choice was
missing from the toolbar, I would click on the
toolbar "tools" than "folder options" than "view" like
the 3rd choice listed said " show hidden files" or "hide
hidden files" I don't see that option now, ??

What is there is built from what is here.
Type Regedit in Start Run and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder

The one you are looking for is called Hidden. Is it there. There should be 17 sub keys.

I followed your post and under hidden in the registry
their are two entries: "no hidden" and "show all" is that
right? like I previously said under the "view" tab under
folder options in the advanced window it looked different
before. It usually says under "tools" on the toolbar:
map network drive, disconnect network drive and
synchronize, than under those 3 it would say folder
options, yesterday the folder options wasn't there. Now I
don't see anywhere where it used to say "show hidden
files" Where would you normally go to allow hidden files
to be seen? Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

I figured out the problem, I was running a program
called "win-spy" and it has the ability to hide folders
that contain the keystokes and screenshots that it
records. For some reason it was also hiding the "show
hidden files and folders" option, I jst uninstalled win-
spy and all is good now, thanks for your help,

Go back to Regedit, right click on the Hidden subkey of:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanc

ed\Folder\Hidden

then select Export. Post the contents here.
