When I point to a program on the TaskBar the description is behind the taskbar. How do I
get it out to see it?

Have a good day!

Hi Rich,

Go to Start/All Programs: Hover over any listing, right click and select
Sort by Name.
All done.

Tooltips behind the Taskbar

This is a known problem. A couple of ways to band-aid this. Reboot or
logoff and log back on. Hide the Taskbar then show it again.

Or kill explorer.exe and restart it.

Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Escape | Processes tab | Right click explorer.exe |
Select: End Process | Click Yes to Warning | Click File |
Click New Task (Run...) | Type: explorer | Click OK

End Task on explorer.exe will make your Desktop and all programs disappear.
Restarting explorer will bring everything back.

Microsoft has come out with a KB article. Unfortunately the KB article does
not offer any real reason for the CAUSE, or a fix.

XP-based computer

Here's another method, I mean band-aid.

Click Start
Click All Programs
Right-click ANY folder OR shortcut that appears ABOVE the taskbar
Click Sort by Name

Somebody posted a program that they created that supposedly fixes the
problem for 9.95 USD. Not worth 10 bucks to me.

I am *NOT* recommending this program, but here ya are..

[[ Check out this web site for more information and a fix:

Tool Tip Manager specifically fixes this problem by looking at various
taskbar window messages and resetting the tooltip's "topmost" window
style automatically as needed.

Kelly,
I tried that and nothing seemed to happen. However, I tried the other message selection
and it worked. Thanks for your help.

Killing explorer and restarting it just looks scary. It isn't really, since
you know what to expect.

How do you hide the taskbar?

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
Auto-hide the taskbar

Auto-hide the taskbar
[[Hides the taskbar. To redisplay the taskbar, point to the area of your
screen where the taskbar is located. If you want to be sure that your
taskbar will be visible whenever you point to it, select the Keep the
taskbar on top of other windows check box and also select the Auto-hide the
taskbar check box.]]

Hmmm......has worked every time here!
On some systems I had to apply the settings twice.

Thanks, I knew about that one but thought there was another to disable the taskbar all the
time which didn't make much sense to me.
