XP Prof Power Management Schemes Grayed Out/Gone??

Power Management and all schemes are grayed out--no power management possible
and creating new schemes is impossible. This is XP Professional with SP 2
and ALL updates installed and current. I tried running Repair from the
Installation CD which created new problems to be discussed elsewhere. Is
there a discussion or KB on how to restore lost Power Management short of
doing a clean install--which won't happen any time soon? Thank you.

yesmy power schemes were grayed out as well because i bought this pc which
was on display, out of the box, at best buy. presumably they don't want the
computers on display to turn off automatically. thanks to this post the issue
has been resolved, even though i bought this computer about 18 months ago.
better late than never.

I have just run into this problem for the very first time and on a new
install of Windows XP Home to boot.
I see Susan says the suggested fix worked for her so my question is
does all the numbers have to be entered manually in the areas shown to
activate the power scheme system like it should be or is there another
way?
I tried copy and paste and that didn't work!

Well if you had any sense you may find some manners!
Sorry but I see nothing here which you refer to LD55ZRA.
I also copied and saved the strings but there is no instruction there.
Maybe Susan should have answered my question???????????????

Now when you click on it you get options to either run it or save it on your
system. I would first try to run it to see if it fixes it otherwise save it
on your system and then run it by double-clicking on it. It depends on
whether you are the administrator or not of your system and I can't help you
on that.

Not silly, frustrated!
Thank you I have all that but am unsure what to do with it!
So if you could be so kind as to explain if I have to enter all that
manually or not would be appreciated!
I thought I posted a pretty straight forward question, but obviously

So what exacly have you got when you say "I have all that"? Have you
got the script or not? If so do you know where did you save it to?

Alternatively, forget about all that and I suggest click on the link I
gave you <http://www.kellys-korner-
xp.com/regs_edits/powercfgrestore.reg> and then you will get a prompt on
the screen. Just click on RUN button and it should correct your
registry entries automatically. You don't have to do anything else.

I got it! It did not like Firefox so when I opened the link in IE I was
prompted like you said!

But I am still curious why that happened as I have never run into this
