I've recently just cleaned up a computer that had the spy sheriff b.s. on
it and i'm not able to get an image up on the desktop. I go into the
control panel , display settings and put the image in that i want , but it
doesn't take effect. If i reboot the computer the image comes up as it's
first starting , but as soon as it adds the desktop icons ,, it goes to
just a plain white background.

Also with this problem ,, after the clean up ,, windows is quite slow to
load ,,the screen between the Windows Xp Home Edition with the little bar
going across it and the Welcome screen , takes up to 3 - 4 minutes to load
,, what could be causing that to happen ,,usually from reboot to working
with the machine would take only 2-3 minutes.

Thanks ,,Gord

The computer is probably still not clean. For Spy Sheriff, run the
utilities listed at this link:

I would also consider running HijackThis and posting your log to one of
the forums listed here (not in this newsgroup, please):

Once you know the computer is really clean, if you are still having
problems with the desktop:

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these.

If you can't enable desktop backgrounds after a virus, MVP Kelly Theriot
has a fix. Look under Wallpaper-Desktop-Disable Changing here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_w.htm

If Display tabs are missing, run Kelly's registry edit on line 285,
right-hand side "Restore all display tabs".
