Help accessing the Internet

Up front...I goofed and now I need some help.

The ICON that depicts two computers that resides next to the time is
where my problem started. I though that I could right click this ICON
and click Disable to close down my connection to the Internet. I wanted
to do this while I was backing up some folders/files having to do with
my Internet connection. Well clicking Disable did close down my
Internet connection. Now, however, I do not have the ICON to right
click to restore my connection to the Internet. Can anybody direct me
to my lost ICON and the Internet again? I am presently using my 98SE
machine to access the Internet.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can re-enable the adapter in Device Manager
or
Start > Settings > Network Connections.
Right click Local Area Connection.
Click Enable in the popup menu.
or
On the desktop Right click My Network Places.
Click Properties in the popup menu.
Right click Local Area Connection.
Click Enable in the popup menu.

You did not mess up - you just don't know where to go.

You need a way that will work no matter how your desktop/start menu is
setup - so here it is:

Start button --> RUN --> Type in:

control ncpa.cpl

--> Click OK.

That should load up a window with the list of network connections on your
computer so you can right-click on them and enable/disable them as desired.

I did a restore of my computer to February 4 when I turned it on
today...all is now back to normal. I still don't know how to fix this
problem other than doing a restore...is there a way?

Yes - read the responses you received and follow the advice.
A System Restore is likely the WORST way to just enable the network device
you disabled...
