No idea what a "protection number" is.
Find out what they really want and come back (if needed.)

There's no such thing as a protection number. If they are talking about your
Product key, I would highly advise against providing this to them. What
program is it?

There is no thing like Protection Number for your computer. I think they want the
protection # of the program you installed

Hi Ayush

They mean by protection number the security number unique on each computer
which change when you replace your mainboard or when the bios information is
updated.

The program sounds like it sucks.
Not to mention they want (from what i can decipher) the hash that is used to
activate your computer?
Get something else. Any other program has to be better.
If they ask why - tell them their registration policy blows chunks.

You said it was a DVD player?
Media Player 10 plays DVDs.
Try installing this:
http://www.free-codecs.com/Stinky_MPEG_2_Codec_download.htm

Otherwise.. Get PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Ask them where you are supposed to look for it on your computer.

There's no such thing. Call them back and tell them you asked here and we
all said the sme thing. Find out what they really want, then ask here again.

Download and install the Belarc Advisor. It's free! It will give you the
numbers for everything (hardware & software) on your computer.

Yes, there is something like that. It is needed for activation. Because i read the
thing about Activation in Adobe Photoshop CS2 that in activation a number that is
unique to each computer together with the product id or number makes a activation
key. But i dont think you can tell what is yours. The program you are installing
should give a number that is made from the computer id.

If this program is a crack for working around the region codes
of a DVD player, then the protection number is the Region Code.
Is that what you are thinking of purchasing online?

If you had checked the tutorial section of the site, there is a section on
how to install, which invites you to download and run an application
designed to reveal your 'protection' number.
I checked the file and it didnt detect any virus.
If however they are using this hash to provide you with a key for the App,
what happens if your hw changes?

Sounds like they're looking for something out of SMBIOS. It's not something
that's easily accessible to the end user.

Even then, it's not, by any means, some number put there for any sort of
"protection". And it's certainly not unique.
