What you're actually talking about, maybe without realizing it, is the ISO
8601 spec on a universal date format coming into more and more use as time
goes by. Unfortunately you cannot set it for ONLY explorer: It's a
system-wide setting so changing it for Explorer changes it for everything in
XP except a few applications that do the formatting themselves instead of
using the system date. Those have to be taken on a case by case basis.

To me, the best part of the ISO 8601 date is that it sorts correctly in
explorer, which I suspect is what you're looking for too. It's really handy
for many different things, especially a poor man's versioning system.

concepts connected with 'and') in detail so those who responded (me
included) will learn how to better their responses - at least according to
you.

It would be much appreciated and/or at least intesresting.

I would say the first part was a 'teach to fish' reply. If that was
*everything* of the answer, I could agree with your 'condescending'
comment - but given that is not *everything*, I would say it is merely help
for now and the future.

The second part was a link to the actual Microsoft support web page
detailing how to change the time and date formatting for Windows XP - which
is what I believe was asked. This would be the more 'direct' answer so many
people believe should be the only thing given. I do not. Now *maybe* this
is where you get the 'egotistic' and 'esoteric', but as I see it - the
Microsoft article is not esoteric as it gives very detailed instructions
meant for *anyone* to follow. I don't believe it egotistical for me to
provide that answer given the part before where I tried to teach one how to
perform a Google search to help themselves.

The last part was just a request for the original poster to return and
comment on the answer received and pointed out *why* I was requesting this -
pointing out it would further assist people in the future.

I see a straight-forward response, albeit lacking in content or any
reference material. Not that the latter is *required*, but I have found
most people looking for an answer like to ensure the suggestions they follow
are backed up by more than just the word of a single person they do not
know - and if one can provide definitive reference material, they can feel
pretty safe about following the advice.

That's what I see - please, take the time to support what you have accuse
others of.
