Is the other PC running WinXP, WinXP SP1, WinXP SP2, or WinXP SP3?

Is Automatic Updates enabled?

Given no additional information, you may be seeing the effects of a
hijackware infection!

NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had
expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has
since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows
Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the
MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected
machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.

2. [WinXP ONLY!! =>] Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan
(only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Wait I.......
forgot to tell, in recent post the other details...
This pc is run winxpsp2 home...
The windows update is still active....Is this the reason why the
searching for windows update seems not to stall as the automatic
update is enabled ?
Here is the site that I used for update
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
The checking for updates for your computer takes ages and not
finishing...
From a normal PC, how long does it takes for that to finish
Regarding virus and malware....I periodically run the windows malware
removal tool and even the Kaspersky Kido( conficker) remover tooll.
And its regularly scanned by the installed Kasperksy Internet Security
so its unlikely that the particular pc was infected with some
malware.;

[Roy, please top-post your replies and quote the entire post to which you're
replying. Thanks.]

If this computer were 100% hijackware free, a Custom scan at Microsoft
Update should complete in a minute or so...and Automatic Updates would have
been keeping the computer fully patched to begin with.
