Hi,

After the recent update I can not access my system anymore. My operating
system starts loading. I see the message that XP is loading. The background
picture of my desktop appears. After that, nothing happens. No 'trash can'
appears and no taskbar with start button either.

A quick check on the Internet learned me to start up XP in save mode. Tried
that, but after the letters 'Save mode' nothing happens. In the F8/Save mode
menu I also tried selecting the 'System restore tool'. Nothing happens.

Anyone have an idea what I can do next?

PS. I just uninstalled McAfee. I tried to install Bitdefender, but had no
luck. But as I never get warnings for virusses, I do not suspect I'm invested
with a virus since McAfee and I parted our ways.

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft

to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the
above number and ask to be transferred to the "Consumer IE queue" (which is
47830).
