XP (Home) failed to install Window Updates

Hi,

I have problem in installing Window Updates recently. Updates were
sucessfully downloaded but failed to be installed. The error message is
"Updates were not installed" No other reasons were given. I am using
genuine MS XP OS, Can someone knowledgable show me how to fix this problem ?
Without those update my PC is now very vulnarable for virus.

Hi Low,

When did this issue start happening ... was it right after installing
Windows XP SP3 ?

For that issue, open a command prompt [ Start > Run > type in cmd >
click OK or press Enter or Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System
Tools > Command Prompt]

At the prompt, type in the below *exactly* as written including the
spaces, pressing Enter after each command

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv
exit

Restart the system and see if it can install updates now.

IF this issue is not connected to the application of SP3, then please
post the *last* 50 lines of the WindowsUpdate.log [WU.log] into your reply.

Start > Run > type in windowsupdate.log
Click OK or press Enter.
Once the log opens scroll all the way to the bottom for the most recent
entries.
If there are no FATAL errors listed in the last 50 or so lines, please
continue upwards until you find one [some].
Post that section and include a few entries prior to and after the FATAL

I followed your instruction, but still failed to installed all the updates.

Don't concern yourself with these 2 updates:

Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) en-us
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5
Family Update (KB951847) x86

The first is NOT required, the second is currently not adequately
explained by Microsoft.

IF .NET Framework 2.0 is installed, then please post back stating so.
IF .NET Framework 3 or 3.5 are installed, ditto.
They will be listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

Hi MowGreen,

I have finally found the solution to this problem.

It was actually due to disabling of all the Add On in my Internet Explores.
I did it earlier because of frequent crashes.

Today I enable all of them and I have successfully installed all the window
updates and other newly downloaded software.

Thank you anyway for your help.

Kindly share this tip with other users if they faced similar unresolved
problem.
