Under Tools/Options/Send/News Sending Format/Plain Text Settings
I have: MIME None Selected
And: Indent the original text with >

with Plain text selected under Tools/Options/Send/News Sending Format

But I still do not get a > inserted in the original text when I Reply Group.

Do you know how I can fix that?

I have looked at my OE settings and it really should do what you say.

People here will only tell you that you should post to an OE group, but,
as it happens, that really is good advice.

So do try and post your question here :

microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general

(just go to TOOLS > NEWSGROUPS and locate this group and press the
'Subscribe' button)

Is this an always thing? Or does it occur when the fool you're replying to
wrote his/her text in HTML for instance?

I did post as you suggested but as you can see below it fixed itself.
Permanently I hope!

Thanks for the reply and for the polite suggestion.

Does this /always/ happen, or sometimes? If someone posts using Quoted
Printable, OE will not insert the >. This also often happens if you reply
to a post that was sent via Google Groups.

Same goes if the post was sent in HTML. In Tools | Options | Send, if "Use
the same format............" is checked, you will reply to an HTML post
using HTML. I keep that checked myself, but manually change the format to
Plain Text in a reply via the Menu Bar.

Further to "Lil' Dave" 's suggestion - try 'unchecking' the option :

"Reply to messages using the format in which they were sent"

...under TOOLS > OPTIONS > SEND

Does this get around the problem?
Is there a down side?
Why doesn't everyone do that?

Thanks

Is GigaNews another culprit as in Google Grouips regarding replies to those
oriented from them?
I might be wrong, but I believe these are both http oriented disguising
themselves as new servers (NNTP). Disguised to those not familiar with the
typical news scheme used with an NNTP server that is. And the customs like
pure text used in such newsgroups that they serve. Goes way beyond the top
posting (OE default), bottom posting wars regarding customary usage and
etiquette. For example, ALL CAPS, no problem. Guess I shouldn't dwell on
the past... Sigh.
