Hi,

I get the message:

The description for Event ID (...) in Source (...) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details.

I checked following points:
- I use XPE SP2
- the file drvmain.sdb is in Windows/AppPatch
- image contains <Software Installation Group Policy Extension>, <Software
Installation Group Policy MMC Snap-In>, <Group Policy Core>

Any other ideas why Event Viewer not working?

Regards,
Günter

Günter,

You may be able to figure out missing component(s) if you gather more info about the event.
Copy the *.Evt files from your runtime offline to XP Pro machine and open there with Event Viewer. There should be more info
resolved there.

Here is the list of all component on XPe SP2 that register EventLog sources (sorry for doubled entries - just different revisions so
don't pay attention to it):

I'm experiencing the same issue with the "Userenv" service not having the
correct registry data.

I discovered that the registry value was not getting into my image:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\Userenv\EventMessageFile
=
"%SystemRoot%\System32\userenv.dll;%SystemRoot%\System32\xpsp1res.dll;%SystemRoot%\System32\xpsp2res.dll"

I checked the component that has this registry resource "Windows XP Service
Pack 2 Resource DLL" and sure enough its there.

What I discovered was this:
Because the parent key is not explicitly defined as a separate registry
resource the value doesn't get added. I presume this is because the key
doesn't exist. I'm not sure why the key isn't created automatically.

My suggested fix:
Add the key and value(s) to the extra registry data of your configuration.

Experiement: How to reproduce the error exhibited by this "bug"
1. In a configuration's Extra registry data create a value in a registry
key that doesn't exist.
2. Build the configuration and load the registry hive into regedit. Note
that the value is not there!
3. Add the parent key of the value to the extra registry data as a key only
resource.
4. Re-build the configuration and load the registry hive. Wow now the value
is there ;)

Hope this helps,
Ed.

Ed,

This problem should not be there if you add "Group Policy Client Core"
component to your image.
