When I go to control panel and check systems/hardware/device
manager/mice and other pointing devices I see the Synaptics and an
Unknown Device. If I try to Update Driver it does the same thing.
What I need to find out is exactly what files/Drivers are being installed
I check mouse.inf from Windows/Inf. But can't figure it out
Been around the HORN several times with HP Techs but they don't seem to
be able to grasp the Problem
I'm hoping someone out there can provide some assistance.
I am thinking of Trying a "REPAIR" thinking that might replace the bad files
I haven't tried anything from the RUN Box I am nor sure if there is
Diagnostic that can be run that would point me in the right direction
TIA

The driver installation prompt would pester me every time I rebooted and I couldn't get it to stop trying.
Booting into safe mode allowed the driver install to proceed to completion for some reason.
A BIOS upgrade is recommended on some sites so if safe mode brings no joy, try the BIOS update and THEN safe mode and the installation may go through.

Posting from EggHeadCafe must just be easy - too bad the results suck for
everyone not posting from there...
You supposedly, "... got similar errors when installing my accursed
Synaptics trackpad ..." --> similar to what? Are you responding to
something?

(With final solution documented.)
You may want to setup an actual newsreader of some sort. Better results all
around (for everyone.) You could also just quote some of the original
message you are responding to (and not change the subject line.)
What operating system are you currently using?
