I cannot encode using WMA 9 Voice codec with Vista 32bit, just like the KB
article here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932390/en-us
I can use other audio codecs AOK, but experience the error "0xC00D0BC3: An
unexpected error occurred with the audio codec." when using the voice codec.
Alas, the hotfix is only for XP, and gives a volume not enough space error
when you run as Admin under Vista.
Can anyone help with this one? I would much prefer to use the voice codec....
Microsoft support said they don't have a KB 932390 hotfix for Vista.
Thanks,
Andrew

I've gotten a similar error with other install pacakges on Vista, not
hotfixes, but software packages. Is your Vista an upgrade or a clean
install? Maybe too late for you, but I wonder if applying the hotfix
to xp then upgrading to Vista resolves the problem.

So you spoke with MS support and they say no fix is available? If it
is the same issue as in XP I find it odd that they did not correct it
in Vista, but if that is the case you may be out of luck. I'm sure
there are plenty of Vista bugs ahead of this one :-P
I've been dealing with this very WMP 11 bug for some time and note the
date of the article you referenced, Feb 07. That was a long time coming.
good luck.
kpg
Support only said 'there is no Vista hotfix for that KB' alas no such
admission that the problem is known to exist with Vista.
Hopefully someone from MS who works with Encoder will help.
Perhaps we can expect a new improved Vista friendly version of encoder?
It would help to know that I am not the only one who has this problem.
Thanks,
Andrew
Eventually I was told Windows Media Encoder 9 is not supported on Vista, so
they could not help me, and my money would be refunded.
Fairly disappointing for Microsoft not to support their own product on
Vista, given is the new OS flagship product, and Vista has been out for a
while.
I wonder if the Encoder is going to get a Vista update or be slowly phased
out……..?

I've no idea about the future of WME. The previously released public beta
of "Pro Encoder" went away but there is the Expression Media Encoder which
although targets the web. I'm not sure what video profiles are available
besides VC-1. I haven't installed it yet as I haven't got around to
installing .NET 3.0 but you should have that by default on Vista.

I've been using it on Vista without problems. I don't use the WMA Voice
codec though.
Also, there is a KB article about Vista for WME9. See second download
here:

Unlikely for what was WME 9. The new encoder, which is a beta, is the
first download in the link above. I don't know if it works with the WMA
Voice codec.

Yes, but that Hotfix does not fix the Voice Codec on Vista, and Microsoft
support told me they are not supporting WME on Vista. (Perhaps that will
change or Microsoft will leave media encoding on Vista to other vendors.)

Do you refer to the Studio Beta that is no longer available? Is that the
future of encoding on Vista?

My mistake. You're correct that the Studio beta is no longer available. I
have not heard of plans to revive it. Another alternative to look at is
Expression Media Encoder. I don't know if it supports the Voice Codec and
it lists for $299. You can trial it for 180 days here:
http://www.microsoft.com/Expression/products/download.aspx?key=encoder

To add to that, the primary target of that encoder's templates
(Silverlight plugin) does not support voice codec for playback.
