Which Vista system ? Only home premuim and ultimate come with DVD
decoders, otherwise you'd have to purchase one to encode the VOB data

Good point Neil

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Dell laptop with an Intel 7400 2.16 Ghz
processor and 2Gb RAM.

The system came with a DVD player called MediaDirect which I thought might
have been the problem so since making my earlier post I installed WinDVD and
everything seemed OK. My movie started encoding properly!

I celebrated too fast however as it keeps crashing about 3/4 of the way
through the movie. This is a big improvement on crashing right at the start
however.

This has only been one movie however so I'm in the process of testing it
with another to see if I have any luck.

Hmm... This is crashing on anything I try to encode, although they all start
and some even get very close to the end.

The hotfix report an error message during the installation (note:
Windows Vista in Italian). It just says that the installation cannot
continue.

Any other solution or hints ?

I have the exact same issue. Says that there is a file missing to allow the
hotfix to be installed properly. To contact my support center.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

I am having the same problem where the hotfix did not work. How/where did
you find the downloads for WinDVD and ffdshow? Is all working smoothly since
you downloaded them? I'm hopeful this will also solve my problem. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue as you guys, running Vista Ultimate (swedish
version). I applied the hotfix 929182. It fails install even though I am
administrator, but if you right-button and choose run-as it succeds strangely
enough, I also see that the files in the patch have replaced the original
files in the encoder-directory.

The hotfix doesnt make any difference though. When running script.exe
WMCmd.vbs and having tried several inputs(mpeg, avi/xvid with ffdshow) and
cscript.exe crashes every time.

Microsoft needs to release another fix for this I think or has anyone else a
solution?
